Our History In a Nutshell

The Lyreleaf Rattery all began one winter, when a young girl decided to take the extraordinary, and somewhat risky, chance of adopting a hairless rat. The hobby soon turned into a full time love, and the girl found herself adopting more rats to come live at her exclusive foster estate. As a bit of a philanthropist, our founder has educated the public and donated to animal charities, all for the welfare of little old ratties. We continue our mission to this very day.

The Ratties Love Mail!

The Lyreleaf Rattery loves seeing your comments, suggestions, feedback, ratty photographs, fan art, and questions, and we post occasional responses on our Friends Page. Although we cannot post everything on the site, we do our best to answer all care questions. Send us your letters at... itsaratslife@yahoo.com!

Greetings from Lyreleaf!

Welcome to the official home of The Lyreleaf Rattery, a privately managed, permanent foster home for homeless ratties of all varieties. Founded by a young lady with a passion for all creatures, especially small animals, we are committed to providing the utmost care to our current ratty residents, along with educating the public on the importance and uses of rats in our society, and the joy a rescued pet rat can bring to one's home. We are also quite good at explaining the many misconceptions people have on the subject of rats in general.

Meet Our Current Rats

Rosie-

While one of our only rats not adopted from a local shelter, Rosie has still had quite a life, and we anticipate nothing but good, long years ahead. Originally chosen for Olive's companion after the passing of Old Winnie, Rosie has proven to be a faithful sister, always keeping a watchful eye on Olive when she began to grow as old as Winnie. Now that Olive has passed away, Rosie requires special attention as a single rat. She is a much admired favorite of all the neighborhood children.

Baron and BlackJack-

Baron and his brother BlackJack were adopted as wee babies from one of our local shelters, the only males in the litter. Alas, the title "wee" does not apply to them any longer. Now large, their appetite continues to grow. The brothers share a love of the ancient ratty sport, pea fishing, and are skilled jumpers, clearing record high cardboard boxes and bathtubs. Although seemingly undistinguishable at first, with curly fur and whiskers and dashing dumbo ears, Baron and BlackJack differ by the white spots on their bellies. Baron has two little "paint splatters," while BlackJack only has one.
